72 UNGA: Welcome Remarks by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz. Meeting of member states of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development. New York, July 18, 2018.

Esteemed Permanent Representatives,

Dear Alicia,

Just two months ago we had the honor of hosting in Havana the thirty-seventh session of ECLAC, a moment that we particularly remember because of the celebration of the seventieth anniversary of this Commission.

With the same warmth and enthusiasm with which we received the participants at the session, we extend to all of you today a most cordial welcome.

72 UNGA: Statement by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz. General Debate of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. New York, July 17, 2018.

Madam Chair,

Cuba associates itself with the statements delivered by the delegations of Egypt on behalf of the G77 and China, El Salvador on behalf of CELAC and Maldives on behalf of AOSIS.

Three years after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, inequality and polarization in the world persist and are even worsening. Opulence and the concentration of income and wealth in developed countries are in stark contrast to the underdevelopment and poverty to which two thirds of the world's population are subjected.

G77 and Regional Commissions High-Level Roundtable on Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development: regional experiences to promote youth employment and address inequality. 17 July 2018. Conference Room 4, UNHQ Conference Building.

Distinguished participants,

Technological evolution and its accelerated development, exceeding limits that a few years ago were reserved for science fiction, entails a radical economic, social, political, cultural, biological and cognitive transformation for humanity.

72 UNGA: Statement by Cuba in the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CWS). Theme: Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls. March, 14 2018.

Madam Chair,

My delegation associates itself with the statement delivered by Egypt on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, and supports the Santo Domingo Declaration, adopted at the Regional Consultation prior to this session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

The priority theme of this session is significantly important in seeking viable alternatives that contribute to transforming the reality in which millions of women worldwide continue to live, particularly rural women.

72 UNGA: Statement by Cuba, High-Level Interactive Dialogue of G-77+China: Innovative Practices for the Financial Inclusion and Economic Empowerment of Women, Especially Rural Women: Lessons from the South”. New York, 13 March 2018.

Mr. Chairman,

My delegation is grateful to you for convening and holding this High-Level Interactive Dialogue on an issue particularly relevant to the nations that are members of the Group of 77 and China.

In the area of gender equality and women's empowerment, the first guarantee is having a juridical-legal framework without any kind of gender discrimination, which enables rural women to empower themselves as human beings in equal rights with men.

72 UNGA: Statement by the Cuban delegation at the general debate on Agenda item 3: Follow-up to the World Summit for Social Development and the twenty-fourth special session of the General Assembly, sub-items a) and b) NY, February 1, 2018.

Mr. Chairman,

As expressed in the Secretary-General's report on the priority issue, in the regions and countries most affected by poverty, statistical indicators show only a slight reduction in extreme poverty rates. More worryingly, this does not indicate that the root causes of this phenomenon have changed or tend to disappear. In reality, the situation remains very serious. In many countries, extreme poverty has continued to grow and, generally speaking, prospects for compliance with Goal 1 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are discouraging.

72 UNGA: Remarks by Cuba, event "Achieving poverty eradication by sustainable health, well-being and education: the case of Ebola in West Africa & other epidemics worldwide 56th session of the Commission for Social Development. 30 January 2018.

Honorable Sr. Isata Kabia, Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs of Sierra Leone,

Distinguished Permanent Representatives and delegates,

The international cooperation developed by Cuba in terms of humanitarian assistance for epidemic disaster relief is a modality that responds to the fundamental principles of our National Health Care System and our foreign policy, whose key pillars are internationalism, humanism and solidarity.
