CUBA, June 27, 2019. - The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Vasantha Senanayake, began an official visit to Cuba on Wednesday to strengthen the historical ties between our countries -in view of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both nations - as well as cooperation in the commercial and biotechnological areas.
Senanayake was received by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Marcelino Medina, with whom he held a cordial dialogue on bilateral relations and the coincidence of both countries on issues of the multilateral agenda.
At the meeting a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies Lakshman Ladirgamar, of Sri Lanka and the Higher Institute of Foreign Relations Raúl Roa García, of Cuba.
As part of the agenda of his visit, Senanayake held meetings with Cuban and Sri Lankan businessmen, as well as with scientists from the biotechnology branch, in which the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of that country has special interest.
The Minister of State of Sri Lanka will also exchange with authorities of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba, the Chamber of Commerce and will visit places of interest, among them, the Monumental Complex Che Guevara, of Santa Clara.
