President of Sri Lanka signs the book of condolences for the demise of Fidel

SRI LANKA, November 28, 2016. - His Excellency, Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka signed today the Book of Condolences opened at the Embassy of Cuba, in Colombo, on the occasion of the death of the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution; qualified as an exemplary leader who dedicated his life and career to promote the welfare of his people.

During his stay at the Cuban Embassy, the President of that sister nation spoke in a friendly way with the Cuban Ambassador, Juana Elena Ramos Rodríguez, highlighting the historic friendship ties between Cuba and Sri Lanka.

The President wrote: "I am saddened to hear about the death of Mr. Fidel Castro Ruz, former President of the Republic of Cuba.

Late President Castro was an exemplary leader who dedicated his entire life and career to promoting the well-being of his people.

Sri Lanka and Cuba enjoy a long standing friendship based on our shared values within the Non-Aligned Movement.

On behalf of the government and people of Sri Lanka, I extend my deepest condolences to Her Excellency, the Cuban government and people."
