New York, 19 October 2016. The Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Rodolfo Reyes Rodríguez, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Cuba, extended this afternoon his warmest congratulations to Mr. Antonio Guterres on his election as Secretary-General of the United Nations, as part of the Informal Session of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly with Designate Secretary-General.
New York, 19 October, 2016. Within the U.S. society there has always been an important number of sectors that have been opposed to the absurd policy of the Embargo against Cuba. The U.S. press has echoed these claims: The New York Times and Bloomberg have spotlighted the growing bipartite support and that of U.S. society in general in favor of lifting the Embargo against Cuba. They have even issued appeals to the U.S. Congress supporting a new policy towards Cuba based on the fact that most of U.S. political and civil sectors, including those having Cuban origins, are in support.
New York, 19 October 2016. “The threat of an arms race in outer space and its militarization increases with the continuing development and improvement of space weapons, the presence of war materials in space such as military satellites, and the absence of a legally binding framework preventing weapons from been deployed in outer space.”, noted Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Versón Representative of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, when addressing the Thematic Debate of the First Committee on “Outer Space”.
Obama’s new measures are positive but of a very limited nature.
New York, 17 October 2016. The United States Government issued a Presidential Policy Directive on Cuba and announced a group of measures to modify the application of some aspects of the Embargo, which will come into force on Monday, 17 October.
The directive is a significant step forward within the process towards the lifting of the Embargo and the improvement of the relations between the United States and Cuba.
