Mr. President,

Distinguished Permanent Representatives and guests,

We thank, on behalf of the Government of Cuba, the convening of this Summit on Biodiversity, in an extremely adverse context of global health crisis caused by COVID-19.

His Excellency Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, recently warned that the pandemic has caused a 25-year setback in the search for solutions to important global problems.

US Government intensifies economic suffocation to the Cuban people

New York, 30 September 2020. On 28 September 2020, Secretary of State of the United States of America Mike Pompeo announced the tightening of the blockade against Cuba with measures that increase the economic suffocation of the Cuban people, by including American International Services (AIS), which processes remittances to Cuba, in the Cuba Restricted List prepared by the State Department. 

Declaration of CubaMINREX: The United States strengthens its campaign against Cuba’s international medical cooperation

The Cuban people and the international community are aware of the dishonest campaign that the government of the United States has launched since 2019 to discredit Cuba’s international medical cooperation; exert pressure on the governments that have asked for it and deprive peoples of these health services.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba denounces that, as part of that offensive, the US government has unleashed an array of pressures and blackmails against the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO).

The United States implements new measures to tighten the criminal blockade against Cuba
