Guyana and Cuba will strengthen and expand their bilateral relations

Georgetown, June 13, 2018. The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Cuba held a working meeting with the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guyana, Ambassador Audrey Waddell. On the Guyanese side, a broad representation of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government institutions participated in the meeting; on the Cuban side, the Director of Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jorge Luis Mayo Fernández, and the Ambassador of Cuba, Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro, attended.

Guyana, Cuba to enhance bilateral relations -President Granger accepts invitation to visit Cuba

Georgetown, Guyana – (June 13, 2018) President David Granger and Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Rogelio Sierra Diaz, who is currently on an official visit to Guyana, today, committed to enhancing the relations between the two countries through increased collaboration and cooperation in areas such as health, environmental conservation, disaster management and tourism. President Granger also accepted an invitation from the President of Cuba, Mr. Miguel Diaz-Canel to visit his country at a date to be determined.

During the meeting held at State House, President Granger said since establishing diplomatic ties on December 8, 1972, Guyana and Cuba have enjoyed a strong friendship based on shared trust, respect and mutual understanding.

 “There is a large Cuban brigade here in Guyana and there is substantial interaction through CELAC [Community of Latin American and Caribbean States] and other regional bodies, so we regard this not only as a continuation but a reaffirmation of our historic friendship. We will continue to collaborate. We have always supported Cuba and the removal of the blockade. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972, we have witnessed the maturity of our relationship,” the Head of State said.

Mr. Moses Veerasammy Nagamootoo, Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, received in his personal office on Wednesday, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, who is visiting Georgetown with the aim of holding talks with the Guyanese authorities to strengthen and expand relations between the two Caribbean nations.

Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the People's Progressive Party and Member of Parliament, received on Wednesday in his personal office the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, who is visiting Guyana with the aim of strengthening and expanding bilateral relations between the two Caribbean nations.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba pays tribute to the victims of terrorism.

Georgetown, June 13, 2018. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, placed a wreath of flowers on the monument to the Victims of Terrorism located on the campus of the University of Guyana in this capital city, in memory of the 73 people, including 11 Guyanese, 5 North Korean and 57 Cuban, who lost their lives as a result of the criminal sabotage perpetrated on October 6, 1976, against Flight 455 of Cubana de Aviación  

Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra Diaz reaffirmed the Cuban government's willingness to strengthen relations with CARICOM.

The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, was received by the Acting Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr. Douglas Slater, with whom he held a working meeting in which other directors of this regional organization also participated.

During the meeting, the excellent bonds of friendship and understanding that unite the largest of the Antilles and the Caribbean and the mutual will of Cuba and CARICOM to continue working to strengthen and expand them were confirmed.

 

Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra Díaz begins visit to Guyana

The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, begins today a visit to Guyana as part of a tour of several Caribbean countries that began on June 5. The Cuban diplomat will be accompanied by the Director for Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jorge Luis Mayo Fernández.

Guyana is of particular importance to Cuba, as along with Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Jamaica, they established diplomatic relations with the island simultaneously on December 8, 1972.

Georgetown, June 12, 2018.  Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, arrived in Guyana on Tuesday to pay courtesy visits to President David Granger, Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and Minister of State and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs,  Joseph Harmon.   

The Cuban Vice-Chancellor will hold bilateral meetings with the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Audrey Waddell; the Acting Secretary and Assistant Secretary General for Human and Social Development of CARICOM, Dr. Douglas Slater; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health of Guyana,  Collette Adams, and other government officials.

Graduation of multidisciplinary team for the evaluation and diagnosis of persons with special educational needs associated with disabilities

Georgetown, June 11, 2018. With the participation of the Minister of Education of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana Hon. Dr. Nicolette Henry and the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Guyana Mr. Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro, among other personalities, the graduation ceremony of eight Guyanese specialists was held. They were trained in the area of diagnosis and physical rehabilitation by a group of specialists from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Cuba.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba will visit countries in the Caribbean

Georgetown, 6th June 2018 - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, begins today a work visit to the Caribbean region. The visit will extend to June 16. The tour includes, in addition to Surinam, the four countries that simultaneously established diplomatic relations on December 8 1972, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana, and Jamaica.
