Juan A.Fernández (Moderator).- Good afternoon. From the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, we announce the beginning of the press conference that will be offered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, about the terrorist attack perpetrated against our embassy in the United States on April 30 last.

(Prensa Latina)  The attack against the Embassy of Cuba in the United States on April 30, shocked people in the two countries and abroad who immediately condemn the event and expressed their solidarity with the Island.

Since an individual opened fire early morning against the building of the Cuban Embassy in Washington D.C., versions of what happened and the motives of the assailant started to circulate in the social media and some American press media.

Aggression with fire arm against the Embassy of Cuba in the United States

In the early hours of Thursday, 30April 2020, an unknown individual opened fire with an assault weapon against the building of the Embassy of Cuba in the United States.  There was no personal injury to the Mission staff, which is safe and protected, but there was material damage caused to the building resulting from the impact of the bullets.

The individual, about whose identity to the Cuban government has no information, was detained on site by local authorities and is under custody.

On January 27th, the World Monument Fund (WMF) organized a symposium and workshop regarding the options U.S. academic and non-profit institutions have to better support their Cuban partners in preserving Havana's heritage. CUBA BUSINESS REPORT- José Ramón Cabañas Rodríguez is Cuba’s First Ambassador to the United States, appointed two months after the restoration of diplomatic relations on September 17, 2015. Prior to becoming Cuba’s ambassador in Washington, he was Chief of the Cuban Interests Section in that city.

On the past November 7 at the United Nations, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla described the deteriorating scenario in the U.S-Cuba relations. He stated that the current administration “uses falsehoods and lies as a pretext to increase its aggression”.
