The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in the Republic of Uzbekistan, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, held a working meeting with the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of this Central Asian nation, Dilmurod Nabiyev.
During the official meeting, held at the Uzbek Ministry, the ambassador congratulated the incumbent on his appointment as Minister and explained various ways to develop cooperation in the sports field.
Invited by Uzbek authorities, the Cuban ambassador, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, visited the city of Samarkand, the second city of Uzbekistan, declared a World Heritage Site in 2001 and registered as "Crossroads of cultures."
During the tour, the Cuban diplomat valued the conservation and restoration works carried out in this city, considered one of the oldest in the world, still inhabited.

It is highlighted that the Uzbek Chancellor welcomed the Ambassador after the presentation ceremony of his Credentials and congratulated him for his high and responsible appointment in Uzbekistan, wishing him success.
The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Uzbekistan, Alfredo Fidel Nieves Portuondo, presented his Letters of Credentials to the Chancellor, Abdulaziz Kamilov, in an official ceremony held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this Central Asian nation.
In the solemn ceremony, both exchanged about the state of bilateral relations and expressed their desire to work to promote cooperation in sectors such as medicine, culture, sports and tourism.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, in the framework of the 20th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of Baku and Azerbaijan, was received today by Archbishop Alexander at the headquarters of the Eparchy.
The religious leader valued the friendship between both nations, wished that the cooperation develop and reiterated the solidarity with the Cuban people.
