The President of the Republic of Cuba, H.E, Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Manuel Marrero Cruz, the Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda and other members of Cabinet updated the Cuban population on March 20, 2020 on the new measures adopted by the country to prevent and fight the pandemic COVID-19.
Among the new decisions was includes the discouragement of international tourism to Cuba within the current situation from March 24, 2020. All Cubans and foreigners with permanent residence in the national territory that are now abroad will have the possibility to return to Cuba anytime but will be subjected to a querantine of 14 days in designed health facilities. Al tourist at present in Cuba can fly out before Tuesday 24 March. The ports and airports of Cuba will remain open for foreign trade operations.
Up to Sunday 22 March, 35 people teated positive of COVID-19, including foreigners and Cubans. In all the cases, the infected people have been travelling abroad or had contacts with people that arrive to Cuba recently. One Italian citizen died, two other patients are in critical condition in ICU and a third one is in a serious situation.
