New York, November 1, 2019. A stamp series about Cuba was launched last 24 October by the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA). The series, made jointly with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is part of a collection dedicated to World Heritage sites.
The collection dedicated to the island consists of 6 stamps featuring the Morro Castle in Havana, the Viñales Valley in Pinar del Río, the Valley of the Sugar Mills in Trinidad, Sancti Spiritus; the Palacio de Valle in Cienfuegos; the city of Camagüey; and the San Pedro De La Roca Castle in Santiago de Cuba.
The stamps show the style of the early 20th century Cuban stamps; and, according to the designer, reflect the natural and cultural richness of the island, from its historical monuments to its prominent landscapes.
This stamp series, which coincides with Havana's 500th Anniversary, is accompanied by a booklet or brochure, which explains to collectors and the general public the significance of each site featured.
The United Nations stamps are in circulation around the world and can be used for sending postcards, letters and all kinds of packages. Shipments should be made from the mailboxes of the UN headquarters in New York, Geneva and Vienna, where stamps can be purchased in stamp shops. They can also be purchased through the UNPA website: unstamps.org.
