Thailand, June 19, 2017. The Minister of Industry of Thailand, Uttama Savanayana, welcomed the Ambassador of Cuba in Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida.
In the cordial meeting the good path of bilateral relations was confirmed, with special reference to the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries to be marked in May 2018.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the ongoing actions and the development potential of bilateral cooperation in the area of biotechnological applications for the benefit of both peoples. It was emphasized that joint efforts in medical-pharmaceutical production for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases constitute an important contribution to the implementation of the Development Strategy 4.0 in Thailand aimed at raising the competitiveness and sustainability of its socioeconomic model in line with the national philosophy of sufficient economy.
The key role of education, science, technology and innovation in achieving a prosperous and sustainable model of development was acknowledged. Interest was expressed in expanding and diversifying industrial cooperation in areas such as agriculture, sugar industry, medical and environmental applications, renewable energy sources, industrial technology transfer and production of advanced technology equipment.
The Ambassador thanked the support of the people and the government of Thailand to the United Nations Resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba and invited the Minister to participate in the Second International Convention on Science, Technology and Innovation, to be held in Havana in February 2018.
Both sides expressed their commitment to continue working for the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
