Thailand and Cuba strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of biotechnology
BANGKOK, October 6, 2017.- Today took place the signing ceremony of the document establishing the joint venture "Abinis" between CIMAB, S.A. and Siam Bioscience Co., Ltd. in the field of biotechnological applications and medical-pharmaceutical production. The ceremony was chaired by Dr. Snoh Unakul, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Siam Bioscience Co., Ltd. and the Cuban Ambassador to Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida. Was attended by high-ranking representatives from both companies, as well as local and international media.
The mutual cooperation in this important scientific field between Thailand and Cuba is aimed at developing, manufacturing and marketing high-quality and effective drugs for the treatment of cancer, autoimmune diseases and diabetes. The primary purpose is to enable better medical care, with world-class products at affordable prices, helping to improve the quality of life in Southeast Asian countries.
The initiative was evaluated as an excellent example of successful South-South cooperation, including the transfer of technology and the training of professionals, which contributes to developing countries' scientific and technical development.
At the ceremony, which included a press conference, a tribute was paid to King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Commander in Chief Dr. Fidel Castro Ruz, great precursors to the development of science, technology and innovation, which always put the well-being of peoples at the forefront.
This ceremony is part of a series of actions to commemorate in 2018 the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Cuba, initiated on 9/5/1958.
