Sri Lankan Minister of Education receives the Ambassador of Cuba

Sri Lanka, October 18, 2021. The member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and Minister of Education, Honorable Dinesh Gunawardena, received today at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education the Ambassador of Cuba Andrés Marcelo González Garrido, who paid him a courtesy visit on the occasion of his recent appointment to this ministerial portfolio.

In the friendly meeting, Minister Gunawardena highlighted the development of bilateral ties between both countries, recalling the cooperation offered by Cuba since the beginning of diplomatic relations between both countries, in different spheres, highlighting medical cooperation and the sending Cuban doctors on occasion of the  Tsunami of 2004. He also highlighted the importance of granting scholarships to Sri Lankan students to pursue different university degrees in Cuba.

Both parties agreed on the mutual interest of working to strengthen exchange in the academic sector.

The Cuban representative informed the Minister about the next 2022 University Congress that will take place next March 2022.

Minister Dinesh Gunawardena is also, Leader of the House at the Parliament, President of the Sri Lanka Cuba Friendship Association and leader of the left-wing party Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (People's United Front) .(EmbaCuba Sri Lanka).
