On the afternoon of January 19, 2021, the special meeting of the Social Council of the ALBA-TCP health sector, UNITED AGAINST COVID 19, held a virtual session. The Cuban delegation was made up of the Vice Minister of Higher Education, Miriam Alpízar Santana, the Vice Minister of MINSAP Regla Angulo Pardo, the Vice Minister of MINREX Rogelio Sierra Díaz and the Scientific and Commercial Advisor to the President of Biocubafarma, Doctor of Science, Luis Herrera Martínez.
The delegations present reflected on the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, discussed universal access to diagnosis, treatment, medicines and vaccines and exchanged good practices for the prevention of Covid-19.
At the meeting, the will of the ALBA-TCP countries to strengthen health systems and facilitate universal access in equitable and affordable conditions to vaccines and drugs developed for the treatment of Covid-19 was ratified.
The President of Banco del Alba (Alba Bank), Vice Minister Raúl Li Causi, offered the possibility of a Humanitarian Fund whose purpose is to establish the Bank for the purchase of vaccines for ALBA-TCP, with funds from said bank.
The Cuban delegation reiterated Cuba's commitment and willingness to confront the Covid-19 pandemic, to the best of its ability, in particular its willingness to hold scientific and health exchanges, provide mutual advice in order to promote collaboration. between the Member States of the Alliance and share the results of their own medical approach that includes the use of innovative biotechnological medicines. He also shared the progress made in the Cuban vaccine candidates against Covid-19.
