Note written by the Cuban Hellenic Friendship Association in Thessaloniki.
Under the slogan “Cuba is not alone”, the Hellenic -Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity of Thessaloniki and the Committee for International Detente and Peace (EDYETH) organized on Saturday November 13th , a protest outside the U.S. Consulate in the city of Thessaloniki, condemning the new imperialist counterrevolutionary plans in Cuba.
The protesters put up posters of Fidel Castro on the entrance of the Consulate and handed out a resolution for the termination of the inhumane U.S. blockade against Cuba, demanding the restoration of Guantanamo in Cuba and the lift of any sanctions and provocative activities against the Island of the Revolution.
In a short speech, the President of the Hellenic-Cuban Association Apostolos Skoufas underlined that “the USA, the EU and various well-paid counterrevolutionary groups in Cuba continue the provocations and machinations of interference in the internal affairs of the island. They seek to present Cuba as a collapsing country, where there is supposedly chaos, in order to justify a foreign intervention. New so-called “spontaneous” anti-government protests and activities against Cuba and its people have been prepared for November 15th”.
“Once again their efforts will fail”, Skoufas said adding that “the plans to overthrow the revolution will not achieve their goal. The Cuban people have experience and know how to defend their achievements”. The President of the Association also added that “now is the time to raise our voice in defense and solidarity towards the Cuban people and the Cuban government, to unequivocally condemn the counterrevolutionary machinations of the imperialists”.
During the mobilization, in a symbolic action, the demonstrators burned the flag of the United States thus sending a message of condemnation of the imperialist policies against the government and the people of Cuba.
