The Hague, 5 October, 2019. Ambassador of Cuba to the Kingdom of the Netherlands Soraya Alvarez Núñez, made a presentation on the genesis, development and tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba for almost 60 years and constitutes the center piece of the current US administration´s policy government against our country with a strong extraterritorial character. The Cuban Diplomat emphasized on the most recent aggressions by president Donald Trump´s administration such as the activation of Title II of the Helms-Burton Act.
The presentation was attended by a broad representation of members of the Ethio-Cubans association and Cuban residents in the Netherlands who received an extensive updating on the main damages caused by the criminal blockade based on the report officially presented by Cuba´s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla during a press conference last September 20th and which will be considered next November 6th and 7th at the UN General Assembly. Likewise, she referred to several examples of the blockade´senforcement in this country and the considerable damages to such sensible sectors as healthcare and education and the Cuban economy at large.
After the presentation, an emotional statement against the blockade was made by the Ethio-Cubans Association in the Netherlands also supported by the president of the Association of Cuban Residents in the Netherlands, as well as other remarks against the blockade by the attendees including Dutch family members who participated in the gathering. Several initiatives are being considered to raise awareness in the Dutch society about the United States policy against Cuba.
The Head of Mission stressed that the behavior of the current US administration constitutes an affront to the international community which has for 27 consecutive times condemned the blockade in the United Nations forum, a reason for which Cuba will not renounce its principles, neither will it cease its demand for the total elimination of this genocidal law which violates human rights, the principles of the United Nations Charter and International Law. She also reiterated the unflinching position of principle of the Cuba government and people in denouncing the blocked in every possible scenario and under any circumstance.
