Wellington, November 12th, 2019. The new Ambassador of Cuba to New Zealand, Edgardo Valdés López, presented credentials to H.E. the Right Honorable Dame Patsy Reddy, Governor-General, after a traditional Maori welcome ceremony.
The meeting was conducive to highlight the good state of bilateral relations and the coincidences between Cuba and New Zealand regarding the concern for the well-being of their peoples, peace, multilateralism, the environment and other values and principles that unite them.
The Ambassador conveyed a message of friendship from the Cuban government to his New Zealand counterpart and emphasized his commitment to work to strengthen the relationship between both peoples and governments.
The Governor underlined the cooperative and constructive nature of the ties between the two nations and the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and New Zealand this year. She also wished the Cuban diplomat success and offered her help in fulfilling his mission.
Cuba and New Zealand have broad coincidences on various international policy issues, including the rejection of the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. (Embacuba NZ)
