The Minister of Trasnport, Works and Maintenance, William Duguid, and Minister Peter Phillips received the Cuban Ambassador Sergio Jorge Pastrana in the Headquarters of the Ministry, in charge of transportation, roads and infrastructure in Barbados.
They shared discussions about different alternatives of cooperation discussed in the past, as well as current needs of Barbados in terms of the rehabilitation of the technical fleet of vehicles and specialized equipment that the Ministry is in charge of, as well as of specialized training that can be received by technical students that could complement the work force that the Ministry should employ.
Such an approach could offer new job alternatives to the Barbadian youths.
Minister Duguid also praised the good preparation Cuba has for facing natural disasters and the challenges of Climate Change effects, manifest in the evident results in face of the number of casualties as well as the economic toll as a consequence of extreme weather events in Cuba. He expressed that Barbadians have much to learn from their Cuban colleagues in terms of preparedness.
