Kingston, Jamaica, 8 July 2020. This morning, the Minister of Education, Youth and Information of Jamaica, the Honourable Karl Samuda, received the Ambassador of Cuba to this Caribbean nation, H.E Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández.
The Minister of Education and the Cuban diplomat discussed the state of the cooperation relations existing between the Greatest Island in the Antilles and Jamaica, and assessed new areas of interest for expanding them.
The agenda for the meeting included topics like the historic bonds between Cuban and Jamaica, Cuba’s solidarity vocation, the advances and the international recognition enjoyed by the Cuban educational system, as well as the impact of and challenges imposed by the current COVID-19 pandemic on public education, among others.
Cuba and Jamaica’s cooperation in the educational sector began in 1997. In 2005, they signed the Agreement for Cooperation in Education for Professional and Academic Support. At present, 75 Cuban teachers teach at 61 educational institutions located throughout the Jamaican geography.
