BANGKOK, June 20, 2017 - The Cuban Ambassador to Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida, was welcomed today by the Deputy Minister to the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand, Suvit Maesincee.
In the cordial meeting the good path of bilateral relations was confirmed and the mutual will to continue strengthening them was reiterated, with special mention to the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries to be held in May 2018.
Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the ongoing actions and potential for developing bilateral cooperation in education, health, science, tourism, culture and sports, especially in the area of biotechnological applications for the benefit of both peoples. It was emphasized that joint efforts in medical-pharmaceutical production for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases constitute an important contribution to the implementation of the Development Strategy 4.0 in Thailand aimed at raising the competitiveness and sustainability of its socioeconomic model in line with the national philosophy of sufficient economy.
The forthcoming important events in Cuba such as FIHAV 2017, UNIVERSIDAD 2018, II International Convention on Science, Technology and Innovation and the International Convention CUBA-HEALTH 2018 were also considered as good opportunities for exchange. It was also highlighted the importance of maintaining cooperation in the various multilateral fora, including those related to the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Nuclear Disarmament and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
The Cuban Ambassador thanked the Minister, the people and government of Thailand for their support of the United Nations Resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba and conveyed congratulations on the enactment, on April 6th, 2017, of the Constitution no. 20 sincethe transformation in 1932 of the absolute Monarchy into constitutional Monarchy.
