As part of his working program in Vienna, the Member of the Parliament Luis Morlote Rivas, Vice-president of the Committee on Education, Culture, Science, Technology, and Environment of the National Assembly of People´s Power and First Vice President of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC by its Spanish initials) was received by Dr. Reinhod Lopatka, Chairman of the European Affairs Committee and Deputy-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the venue of the Austrian Federal Parliament.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Austria, H.E Mr. Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios and other officials from the Embassy of Cuba in Vienna participated in the encounter.
The Cuban Member of the Parliament who is also President of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with the EU Member States thanked the warmth treat he received during his visit to the Austrian Parliament and the high interest to continue developing the bonds between both parliaments and peoples. He offered extensive information on the Cuban current situation, mainly, regarding the process of popular consultation about the Constitutional Reform which is an issue of major interest for the host Member of the Parliament.
Dr. Lopatka was also interested in the state of the Cuban economy and in general the situation in Latin America. He was admired for the development of culture and arts in Cuba and for the social system of the country.
He offered information on the work of the Austrian legislative body in the context of the pro-tempore Presidency of EU. He expressed his satisfaction with the progress in the relations between Cuba and the EU.
At the end of the meeting, the Cuban Member of the Parliament provided information about the arrangements being made in Havana to celebrate its 500th anniversary in 2019 and invited him to pay a visit to Cuba in the near future.
