Ottawa, August 24, 2021 - Last night, August 23, Ambassador of Cuba to Canada, Josefina Vidal, participated in a conversation organized by the Ottawa Cuba Connections organization and attended by members of other solidarity groups from the capital region.
During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat offered extensive information on current events in our country and referred to the campaign of disinformation and manipulation of the Cuban reality, which seeks to present a situation of internal instability. She also addressed the complex situation generated by the increase in cases of COVID-19 in the country, the enormous efforts being made to contain the disease and the progress of the vaccination campaign following the approval of the emergency use of three vaccines to fight the pandemic. She took the opportunity to express the deep gratitude of the Cuban people to the Canadian solidarity movement and Cubans living in Canada, for the numerous campaigns organized to send donations of medicines and medical supplies, including almost two million syringes to support the vaccination of the population.
After referring to the negative impact on the economy and well-being of Cubans of the unilateral coercive measures adopted by the U.S. government in recent years and which persist to this day, the Cuban Ambassador thanked Ottawa Cuba Connections for holding monthly pickets against the blockade in front of the U.S. Embassy in Canada and for its support to the caravans organized by the Association of Cuban Residents in Ottawa-Gatineau.
