Greece: Important virtual event with the participation of leading health scientists in the framework of the #UnBlockCuba campaign

(summary prepared by La Red Solid @ ria Griega) At the initiative of the José Martí Cultural Association - Solidarity with Cuba (ACJM) together with organizations, solidarity groups and groups on social networks that promote the pan-European campaign #unBlockCuba in Greece, an event was organized last Saturday, November 28 of this year dedicated to the efforts and achievements of Cuba in the face of the pandemic, entitled "« Block Covid - Unblock Cuba ". In homage to the 4th anniversary of the physical departure of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the evening began with a video where Fidel referred to Cuban doctors and their work. The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Greece, Zelmys Maria Dominguez Cortina, greeted this interesting virtual event and thanked the organizers and participants for the permanent solidarity they provide to Cuba, especially highlighting Greece's support for the international initiative for the award to the Cuban Medical Brigade "Henry Reeve" of the Nobel Peace Prize 2021 and also referred to the effort and contribution of Cuba in the fight against the pandemic inside and outside the country, while the cruel North American blockade continues and worsens. In the virtual session, moderated by Konstantinos Spyropoulos from ACJM and commented by Myrsini Tsakiri (Blogger) who presented detailed information on the effects of the blockade on the island, the Cuban doctors Jorge Luis Quiñones Aguilar, Ronald Hernandez Torres and Lary Mar, who are fighting the battle of Covid-19 in other countries, the Greeks residing in Cuba Dimitris Dimitrakopoulos and Nektarios Avramakis, the coordinator of the Greek Committee of the “Nobel Peace Initiative for the Henry Reeve Cuban Medical Brigade” Velissarios Kossyvakis, as well as the activist Panayοtis Papadomanolakis , author of the recently published book "Covid-19, the virus of contrasts." Damayantis Pacheco, from the Association of Cuban Residents in Greece and Europe, alluded to the solidarity of Cubans residing in other countries with their homeland and referred to the effects of the blockade on the daily life of Cubans, especially in the situation of the pandemic. Interventions and messages of solidarity were also sent by Canadian activists Nino Pagliccia and Amara Goodspeed. The second part of the meeting became a very important scientific and solidarity event on the pandemic and its treatment by the health systems in Greece and in other countries, with important and extensive interventions by Dr. Panos Papanikolaou, Neurosurgeon, Director of the General Hospital of Nikaia - Piraeus, Secretary General of the Federation of Associations of Clinical Physicians of Greece, Costas Bougioukos, Associate Professor of Bioinformatics at the University of Paris, Dr. Poulikos Poulikakos, Biologist, Alternate Professor of Oncology, Icahn Medical School - Mount Sinai New York, Dr. Grigoris Gerotziafas, Professor of Hematology, Faculty of Medicine, Sorbonne University, Head of the Department of Hematology at the University Clinic - Hemostasis, Tenon Hospital - Paris, Dr. Vassilis Tsapas, Specialist in Intensive Therapies at Papageorgiou Hospital , member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Physicians of the Hospital of Thessaloniki. It was an extremely interesting meeting that kept intact the interest of the 400 users who watched the important interventions of the speakers online for three hours, where with hundreds of messages on social networks they supported Cuba and its perception and humanitarian action in dealing with the pandemic, but they also supported Greek doctors who wage a heroic battle, within an extremely problematic situation and health system. The event ended with a love song for the island by the Cuban artist, Remy Mailan, who lives in Greece and in this way we renewed the appointment with the friends of Cuba in Greece for the next informative and solidarity activities. It should be noted that the event was broadcast on social networks by dozens of pages, websites and hundreds of users on their profiles.
