On Saturday, 2 December, the intense and fruitful visit of the Cuban Members of Parliament Santiago Lajes Choi, María Caridad Rubio Hernández, Pablo Odén Marichal Rodríguez, Roberto Rafael Núñez Moreira, Gretchen Gómez González, Rolando Miguel González Patricio and the Secretary of the Inter-parliamentary Union Jesús Rafael Mora González, official of the People’s Power National Assembly concluded.
In 6 intense days, the delegation had the opportunity to directly exchange with more than 43 British MPs from all parties, members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The agenda, sponsored by the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which also included an extensive tour through the halls of the Palace of Westminster, seat of Parliament, witnessed the intense debates within the House of Commons, during the Prime Minister Question and Answer Session, on this occasion hosted by the First Secretary of State Damian Green
They also held productive working meetings with different committees of Parliament such as Health, Science and Technology, International Relations among others. A meeting also took place with the Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office Sir Alan Duncan, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer in the British Parliamentary system John McDonnell, among others.
As part of the visit, Cuba Solidarity Campaign led by Rob Miller, in coordination with the Cuba Group of MPs from all Parties, organized a Public Meeting on the elections in Cuba, our democratic system, especially to pay homage to our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro. That very same day, numerous debates were held with other MPs as well as a lively meeting with the Leader of the Labor Party, Jeremy Corbyn, who addressed the participants. The visit included several contacts with academicians and professors at the universities of Reading and Oxford.
The Ambassador of Cuba Teresita Vicente and other officials accompanied the delegation throughout the intense agenda.
