Monrovia, October 22nd, 2018- The Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, Mr. B. Elias Shoniyin received on Tuesday afternoon the Cuban Chargé d'Affaires, Yordenis Despaigne Vera, on the occasion of the farewell of the latter for the end of his mission in Monrovia. Representing the Foreign Ministry of the West African nation, Mr. Abraham Corvah newly appointed deputy minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration as well as Mr. Benjamin Sloan senior desk officer of the Bureau for American Affairs also participated. On the Cuban side, the Second Secretary Carmen Maury Toledo was also present.
During the cordial meeting, the Cuban diplomat conveyed a message of gratitude from the Cuban government and people to Liberia for the systematic support received, in various multilateral forums, in Cuba's fight for the cessation of the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the island for almost 60 years. He also expressed his satisfaction for the accompaniment of the Liberian authorities to the process of reopening the Cuban Embassy, a symptom of the interest of both countries to strengthen and diversify their bilateral relations.
For his part, the Liberian vice chancellor praised the Cuban diplomats for their "valuable and inestimable work in favor of bringing the relations between Cuba and Liberia to a higher level" while wishing the diplomats renewed success in their future performance. The occasion was also propitious to review important issues on the bilateral agenda, aimed at strengthening the ties between both nations. (CubaMinrex / EmbaCuba Liberia)
