Ottawa, May 29, 2021 - This afternoon, the XIV National Meeting of Cubans Resident in Canada took place, organized by the Associations of Cubans Resident in Canada: "Cubans Resident in Ottawa - Gatineau", "Cultural Association L'Île de Cuba " of Montreal, "Community of Cubans in Canada" of Montreal, and "Juan Gualberto Gómez" of Toronto".
During the event, the participants ratified their commitment to Marti's ideology and reaffirmed their support from abroad for the causes of our people and the defense of Cuba's sovereignty.
Ambassador Josefina Vidal sent a message of gratitude to the Cubans residing in this country for their unconditional support to Cuba and the Cuban people, in times of great challenges, due to the unprecedented tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, whose negative effects have worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic. She thanked the Cubans living in Canada for their pronouncements against the blockade, through the signing of petitions and their participation in the monthly pickets of the solidarity movement and in the "Bridges of Love" caravans, as well as for their tireless work in the promotion, collection and shipment of medical supplies to Cuba.
In their speeches, the attendees expressed their support and solidarity with the Cuban people and pledged to strengthen the struggle in defense of the preservation of the sovereignty and independence of the Homeland.
They also condemned the blockade and the hostile policy of the U.S. government, rejected the inclusion of Cuba in the lists of States that sponsor and do not collaborate in the fight against terrorism, and demanded the immediate and unconditional return of the territory illegally occupied by the United States in Guantanamo.
During the meeting, the participants had an active exchange with the consuls on migration and consular issues of interest to Cubans living abroad.
The meeting concluded with the approval of a final Declaration and the decision to hold the XV National Meeting of Cubans Resident in Canada on May 21, 2022, in the city of Ottawa.
