UNITED KINGDOM, July 9, 2016.- The Secretary General of the Durham Miners Association, David Hopper gave the opening speech for the main and most important event of the Unions to be held in the UK with more than 100,000 attendees.
The event was attended by Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, general secretaries of the main unions of the country, Labour MPs and foreign guests, including the heroes of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez as well as Cuban Ambassador, Teresita Vicente Sotolongo, among others.
Heroes Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez gave speeches thanking the Unions, the Cuba Solidarity Campaign, the Committees for the liberation of the Five Heroes, union leaders, parliamentarians and friends, for all the support received during these long years of resistance and struggle for their freedom. Both heroes stressed that, ‘thanks to international solidarity and especially to you today the Five are free in their homeland, with their families and people.’
At the end of the ceremony, there were many demonstrations of friendship and solidarity from the participants to the Five Heroes, who asked for autographs, photos, exchanged words, shook hands or hugged showing gratitude and happiness. (Embacuba UK)
