Addis Ababa, 25 January 2019. The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba to Ethiopia hosted a Reception on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.
During the event, the Cuban Ambassador, H-E. Mrs. Vilma Thomas congratulated the Cubans and expressed appreciation to Ethiopia, the Ethio-Cubans and everyone around the world that have accompanied the Cuban Revolution in its endeavours during 60 years in order to develop the country and preserving peace, its independence and sovereignty. A particular acknowledgment to Africa was included in her speech because of the unanimous support in the fight against the embargo.
The Reception took place at Getfam Hotel where the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Markus Takle congratulated Cuba on behalf of his government and people and expressed appreciation for the support given to Ethiopia 40 years ago to preserve its territorial integrity and later on, with the formation of thousand of Ethiopians in various disciplines.
The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Thomas Kwesi Quartey transmitted gratitude for the contribution of Cuba to the independence of several African countries and rejected the existance of the blockade on Cuba.
The event served also to paid tribute to the Cuban National Hero, José Martí, on the occasion of its 166 birthday anniversary.
In attendance was the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of the government of Ethiopia, the international organizations, the Cuban cooperants and residents in Ethiopia.
An assortment of Cuban food and drinks were offered to the audience, as well as good Cuban music.
