Cuban Ambassador congratulates New Zealand authorities on Waitangi Day

Paihia, 6th of February 2018. - On the occasion of the commemoration of Waitangi and in In successive encounters with the Governor General Patsy Reddy, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Vicepremier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters, the Cuban Ambassador to New Zealand, Mario Alzugaray, conveyed local authorities a congratulatory message on behalf of his Government.

The Cuban diplomat also expressed his pleasure on the good momentum in bilateral relations, restating the will to further promote closer links between the two countries.

As part of a program organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand, members of the diplomatic corps visited historic sites linked to the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi between Maori chiefs and British settlers. Troops from the NZ Navy perform the Beat of the Retreat ceremony, in remembrance of what is considered the birth of the nation. (Embacuba New Zealand)
