First part (I): the prison of Thebes.
Cuba: a sponsor country of world solidarity and humanism, respect for life and friendship, promoter of peace and cultural encounters between all the peoples of the world.
THE CONSTITUTION of the Republic of Cuba approved with a YES by 86.85% of the citizens who exercised their right to vote in the constitutional referendum held on February 24, 2019, and which can be consulted on the internet, states:
"The Republic of Cuba repudiates and condemns terrorism in any of its forms and manifestations, in particular State terrorism."
At the same time, the Cuban Magna Carta explicitly advocates the promotion of friendship and solidarity cooperation among all the peoples of the world.
Innumerable, unprecedented and altruistic actions in many fields have emanated from this philosophy of solidarity of the Nation over more than 60 years. Its most recent expression, although not the only one, is the presence of some 60 Cuban medical brigades made up of thousands of doctors and paramedics in dozens of geographical points of the world to fight against Covid-19. I hope it doesn't have to be many more, but without a doubt it is an epic that the whole world has recognized with admiration.
Unfortunately, the current government of the United States of North America, crowned universal "listero" (note: lists creator), accused Cuba - no more and no less - of being a sponsor of terrorism. Apart from the fact that there are no, and hardly ever will be, reasons for this, neither does History “play dice”, and in some way it has spoken: perhaps it will be more humble, in this life, for each one to take care of their own Capitol.
THE LAW OF FOREIGN SERVICE of the Republic of Cuba approved in October 2020 by the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, as well as the Constitution of the Republic, is explicit in the task of “promoting, maintaining and developing cultural relations and cooperation "between the peoples, to" foster ties of friendship and develop political, economic, commercial, cultural, educational, sports and scientific relations "between Cuba and the nations (Chapter III, Second Section, subsection e), and in the Article 22, subsection c, addresses the need to promote "educational, sports, scientific and cultural relations", among others, "as well as promote friendship, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, of April 24, 1963 ".
As the Cuban Constitution expresses, the “fraternal friendship, aid, cooperation and solidarity of the peoples of the world” are accompanied by respect for the independence and sovereignty of the peoples, the recognition of the right that assists them in their self-determination, without interference in their internal affairs. That is Cuba, its feeling, its essence, and the letter of the Constitution of its Republic.
Cuban respect for the sovereign right and brother of other nations comes from the cradle, vision and practice of Marti, who in 1877 - at the age of 24 - swore: “by system I have veiled the interference in the active politics of the countries in that I live ”, because“ in a foreign land you have to always be restrained like a guest, and sit where you are told to sit, and receive the air itself as a favor ”–said at 36 years old-.
Between 2018 and 2020 (first four months) Cuban photographic exhibitions were exhibited 18 times in more than 10 cities in Greece, and once in Manama, capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in the Arabian-Persian Gulf. The genesis of these exhibitions (“Con Cuba en el corazón” and “José Martí: con Grecia en el corazón”) was the LEA Festival 2018 and 2019 (Literature in Athens).
Soon the Cuban exhibition "José Martí: with Greece in the heart" will be exhibiting for one year in two metro stations in Athens. Never before has the Athens Metro had a temporary exhibition exhibited for so long, and it is also the first time that a Cuban sample has been exhibited in the Athens Metro. By the way, it is perhaps the two most renowned stations of the Greek Metro: Acropolis and Syntagma, in the heart of Ancient Greece. In his Works, Martí spoke more than once about these places.
It would be difficult to describe what happened in each of these photographic exhibitions, or to try to show in words how much love for Cuba was expressed, how much feeling and solidarity. The images will be able to speak better. There is a material to share that will be published until January 28, 2021, the day of the 168th anniversary of the birth of Martí, National Hero of Cuba, and the best Cuban friend of "the Greek."
Greece is considered by some in the world, historically, the cradle of Western culture and democracy. It must be said without excess of passion: Cuba occupies an important place in the hearts of the Greeks and Greek women. Cuba and "lo cubano" (note: what is Cuban) is a reference for many in Greece. This is not an opinion. It is a fact, palpable, supported.
José Martí also felt so much love for Greece and “the Greek”.
Congratulations to the brother people of Greece on the 200th anniversary of its independence, which will be celebrated on March 25, 2021.
Images of the photographic exhibitions that have taken place in different cities of Greece between 2018 and 2020 will be shown in various publications, that is, “With Cuba in the heart” and “José Martí: with Greece in the heart”.
It begins with the respective exhibitions in the high-security jail for ladies in the historic region of Thebes - more than once cited by Martí - located about 70 kilometers north of Athens, during which three concerts by artists took place. Cubans residing in Greece dedicated to the inmates and officials of the largest high security prison for women in the country, humanistic, exciting and unforgettable events.
The pandemic surprised the fourth concert in prison in preparation, and although happily the Cuban compatriot who was serving prison there and who helped to mount the photographic exhibitions in the prison is already free, when this situation passes that concert will be held, which will be such perhaps the greatest of all. It was exciting to see how in the third concert Greek artists joined the Cuban artists. It will surely be that way in the room. It is a humanistic gesture of incalculable value. For everyone, inside and outside.
The following images correspond to the photo exhibitions and concerts of Cuban artists dedicated to the inmates of the high security prison for women in Thebes, Greece. High authorities of the Greek Orthodox Church of the region where the prison is located also appear who had the gesture of visiting the photographic exhibition "José Martí: with Greece in the heart", in the prison of Thebes, a gesture that is heartily appreciated.
