Bhumibol Adulyadej, conferred with the title King Bhumibol the Great, was cremated in Bangkok on 26 October, 2017. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from different countries. The diplomatic corps accredited in Thailand participated in the honors.
He was born in Cambridge, USA, on 12/5/1927. He was the King of Thailand from 9/6/1946 until his death. In life he managed to be the head of state who spent more time in office, a total of seven decades. He was the ninth King of the Chakri dynasty, also known as Rama IX.
He passed away in Bangkok, on 13 October, 2016, at 88 years of age. His mortal remains were exhibited at the Royal Palace in Bangkok. Millions of people have had the opportunity to pay their respects during the year of mourning decreed in the "country of smiles", dominated since then by the black color in the mourning attires of its citizens as respect for the monarch.
King Rama IX initiated and promoted numerous projects and research activities on the development of agriculture, livestock, the exploitation of water resources and the preservation of nature, with high impact on the development process of the country. He is also considered the father of innovation in Thailand.
