On the occasion of the visit as Non-resident Ambassador paid by His Excellency Mr. Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios, Ambassador of Cuba to the Republic of Croatia, to the capital of this European country; he held a working meeting at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of that country, with Mrs. Nina Morana Soljan, Director for North, Central and South America and with Mr. Boris Bartulin, Head of the Division for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Both parties reviewed the state of bilateral relations and the main topics which are taking place this year; highlighting the continuity of the Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the launch of the Intergovernmental Working Group on economic issues and the strengthening of cultural ties, among other crucial sectors. In the latter, the Ambassador presented a proposal of a Program for cultural exchange between the Ministries of Culture of both countries, for the period 2019-2021, which was favorably received by the Croatian side.
It was an appropriate occasion for Mrs. Morana Soljan to inform that the ratification process of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the European Union was concluded by the Croatian side publishing it in the Official Gazette of the Republic. The Cuban Ambassador thanked the support of the European country during all the process and bonds between Cuba and European Union, in general terms.
The Ambassador also provided updated information on the results of the recent Constitutional Reform process carried out in Cuba and on the state of Cuba-United States relations, emphasizing the threats of the Trump Administration to implement Title III of the Helms-Burton Act. He thanked Croatia for its ongoing support to Cuba in rejecting the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.
Both parties congratulated each other on the good state of bilateral bonds and expressed their willingness to continue working to strengthen them.
