Ottawa, December 15, 2021 - Liván Nicolás Arronte Cruz, Minister of Energy and Mines of the Republic of Cuba, and David DelMastro, President and CEO of Deltro Group, a Canadian company, laid the cornerstone for the construction of the first of 19 photovoltaic solar parks in the province of Cienfuegos, Cuba.
Canada is one of Cuba's main partners in terms of foreign investment, trade, cooperation and tourism. Deltro Soluciones de Energía S.A. officially signed an agreement with the Cuban authorities in March of this year and will be dedicated to the development, construction, installation, operation, maintenance, administration and commercialization of the electric energy produced in 19 photovoltaic solar parks, all of them with capital from the Canadian company. They will have an initial nominal power of 100 MW/AC and 50 MW/AC of accumulation and will be developed in several provinces of the country such as Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila, Las Tunas, Guantanamo, Granma, Havana and Holguin.
Cuba has a great source of wind, solar and other renewable energies, so the construction of these parks will incorporate more than 100 MW to the National Electric System (SEN), saving 41 thousand tons of diesel and ceasing to emit 140 thousand tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The rational use of these energies will contribute to the reduction of fossil fuel consumption and consequently to the environmental protection and economic growth of the Caribbean nation.
