Today, in the offices of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Development of Barbados, the Ambassador of Cuba, Sergio Jorge Pastrana and the Director of the National Sports Council of Barbados, Neil Murrell, signed the document that establishes the extension of the contracts of Cuban sports coaches who are currently in that country. On behalf of the Government of Barbados, the CARICOM Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Sandra Gittens, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Development, Ms. Yolande Howard, were present as witnesses and guarantors of the signature. We are immersed in the renewal of the collaboration agreements regarding Sports. This is a process that now begins after an exchange between the authorities of both countries last December, changes in the leadership of the National Sports Council and the corresponding Ministry in Barbados, and the challenges imposed by the pandemic of COVID-19 to sports activities themselves, among other new various conditions. This agreement guaranteed the extension of the active contracts and begins a process of updating a collaboration that has more than 18 years of continuity. There are currently Cuban sports advisers in Barbados in the disciplines of swimming, table tennis, hockey, cycling, boxing, and volley ball.
