Guyana, October 20th, 2016. Local mass media provided coverage to the press conference by the Cuban Ambassador to the country, Julio César González Marchante, on the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Cuban people by the US Government for more than five decades, and the resolution on this regard that Cuba will present to claim and end to this policy next October 26th, 2016, in the framework of the 71st Period of Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In the presentation, the diplomat explained how the blockade damages the Cuban people in various ambits. He commented on the recent developments in the relations between Cuba and the United States - which will be reflected in the new resolution to be presented by the island - while condemning this cruel and genocidal policy, including its extraterritorial character, rejected last year by the vote of 191 UN members.
On the other hand, the Ambassador widely publicized the website CubaVsBloqueo and told the reporters about the campaign #YoVotoVsBloqueo which can be joined by anyone who wishes to express their desire to definitely lift such a repudiated policy. He also expressed the appreciation of the Cuban Government and people to the unwavering support received by Guyana to finally bring an end to the blockade.
After the closing of the presentation the Cuban Ambassador answered numerous questions and offered interviews to different local media.
