The president of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan, Anar Rzayev, received in this capital the ambassador of Cuba in Baku, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo.
The purpose of the meeting was to evaluate future collaboration projects between both nations in the intellectual sphere.
The head of the Azerbaijani association highlighted the relations of friendship and solidarity between his country and the island and highly valued an exchange between the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
Anar, distinguished writer and dramatist of this nation, also thanked Cuba for its support in the international arena and reiterated its rejection of all kinds of foreign interference in the internal affairs of nations.
For his part, the Cuban diplomat stressed the historical significance of the Cuban Revolution, the legacy of its leaders, the economic and financial blockade of the US government against Cuba and the current Latin American and international regional situation.
He also highlighted the completion in Cuba of the 28th International Book Fair of Havana (FIL 2019) and extended an invitation for Azerbaijan to be present in its next edition.
The Cuban ambassador explained that UNEAC is a social and cultural organization that was born in 1961 thanks to the initiative of the national poet Nicolás Guillén and whose main objective is to preserve the project of social justice and national independence, as well as to protect and stimulate the creation of the Cuban writers and artists.
The Azerbaijani Writers Union is the largest public organization of writers, poets and publicists in this Caucasian nation and has more than 1500 members. It was founded on June 13, 1934, when Azerbaijan was part of the Soviet Union as the Soviet Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan.
