Addis Abeba, October 10, 2018. A week of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Karamara victory and of the beginning of the educational programs for Ethiopians in Cuba took place in this capital.
The Organizing Committee of the Ethio-Cubans coordinated a program and counted on the support of the governmental authorithies of Cuba and Ethiopia.
A large delegation of Cubans arrived to Addis Ababa led by the Army Corps General Ramón Espinosa Martin, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and Deputy Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and Fernando González Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and President of the Institute of Friendship among the Peoples (ICAP). Other participants were Col. Orlando Cardoso Villavicencio, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and former prisoner in Somalia during the Ethio-Somali war, H.E. Mr. Angel Arzuaga, former Ambassador to Ethiopia, an official from ICAP, some former professors in the Isle of Youth where the Ethiopians were taken to study 40 years ago, family of fallen Cuban combatants, a TV crew and the musical group "Jelengue".
The official ceremony took place at the African Union Headquarters presided by the Deputy Chairperson, H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey, the Cuban delegation and a representation of the Etghiopian government led by the Director General for the Americas in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
