164th Anniversary of Marti's birthday in Cyprus
Nicosia. January 27th.
In front of the monument erected in Nicosia as homage to the National Hero and apostle of the independence of Cuba Jose Martí, was carried ou an act to celebrate the 164 Anniversary of his birthday.
The meeting, convened by the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association and the Diplomatic Mission in Cyprus, was attended by numerous representatives of different political organizations and civil society, youth, women, workers, the Pan-Cypriot Movement for Peace, ss well as Venezuelan diplomats and others and it started with an homage to the historic leader of the Revolution Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, who died at the end of last November.
Stefanos Stefanou, member of the Political Bureau of the AKEL Party, emphasized the significance and historical importance of the apostle's thought, life and work, who became a symbol of the Cuban nation and a paradigm for entire generations of children of the island and also for the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Cuban Ambassador, Aramis Fuente, thanked the sincere solidarity and friendship of the people of Cyprus and said that this was the first homage we paid to Martí without the physical presence of the most extraordinary and decisive heir of his thought and his ideals, affirming that Martí and Fidel, crossed the borders of the small island in which they were born projecting itself in the contemporary history with a profile of universal men.
The conclusion of the event was the placement in front of the monument of floral offerings by the different organizations.
